Dress Codes

  • Golf
    • CONVENTIONAL AND APPROPRIATE GOLF ATTIRE FOR THE GOLF COURSE, DRIVING RANGE, PUTTING GREEN

      Gentlemen:

      Collared shirts should be tucked in pants or shorts. Men may wear a mock neck shirt with at least a 1 ½” collar. No tee shirts are allowed. Shorts should be an appropriate, traditional golf length. Belts should be worn through the loops if applicable. Appropriate footwear is a spike-less golf shoe, golf shoes with soft spikes or athletic shoes. All caps are to be worn properly with the bill forward.

      Ladies:

      Collarless shirts with sleeves or sleeveless shirts with collars are appropriate golf attire. Shorts should be an appropriate, traditional golf length. No exercise clothes, yoga clothes, tennis shorts or leisure wear are permitted.

      Appropriate footwear is a spike-less golf shoe, golf shoes with soft spikes or athletic shoes.

      These rules apply to all Members, guests and children ages twelve (12) and up. For those children ages eleven (11) and under, it is recommended, but not required, that they wear conventional and appropriate golf attire previously described.

      At no time will the following attire be permitted: denim blue jeans of any kind, cargo shorts, tennis shorts, gym shorts, jogging clothes, yoga clothes, exercise clothes, tank tops, tee shirts, leisure wear, caps worn inappropriately, swimming attire, street shoes, heeled shoes, metal cleated shoes, sandals or boots.

      The dress code will be enforced to uphold the traditions and standards of Houston Country Club and its membership. Members will be expected to support and require compliance from guests in following the dress code in all circumstances.

  • Tennis
    • APPROPRIATE TENNIS ATTIRE

      It is very important to maintain a proper appearance at the Club. To accomplish this, the following rules have been set forth by the Tennis Committee to apply to all male players and teaching staff.

      1. Only appropriate, tennis specific attire (preferably white), may be worn.
      2. All players must wear regulation tennis shoes. Jogging, basketball or gym shoes will not be permitted.
      3. All male players 18 years and older must adhere to the dress policy referred to in Section 5(a). No tank tops, t-shirts, etc.
      4. Regular tennis shorts (preferably white), must be worn. No cut-off shorts, jogging shorts, swim suits, golf, khaki or Bermuda shorts will be permitted.
      5. During cooler months, only standard warm-ups will be allowed. Long pants, sweats, or blue jeans are not permitted.
  • Fitness
    • Closed toe shoes and socks with tasteful, appropriate exercise attire are required when participating in any exercise program on the property. No cut-off shorts, running shorts, muscle shirts, bare midriff, sandals or street shoes, please.

  • Dining
    • Gentlemen and boys are not permitted to wear hats in any of the dining rooms.
      Members and their guests are requested to cover visible tattoos while on Club property.

      Grill Room: During Construction (Beginning January 1, 2020):

      • Before 6:00 pm, gentlemen may be in casual dress (golf pants and collared shirts are acceptable).
      • After 6:00 pm, gentlemen and boys over the age of 12 years old are required to wear coats, ties optional. During the holiday season (the week of Thanksgiving – New Year’s Eve) gentlemen and boys are required to wear coat and ties in the Grill Room, the exception to this rule is Friday evening when the dress code is tie optional. 
      • Acceptable attire for the ladies in the Grill Room and in the upstairs of the Clubhouse after 6:00 pm is dresses or dressy suits.


      Red Room/Grill Bar Dining: Every day/night is casual. (Sports attire, shorts, denim acceptable)
      Terrace Room/Patio: Casual Attire, Swimsuits must be covered while on the Patio. (Sports attire, shorts, denim acceptable)
      Romeo’s Room: Casual Attire (Sports attire, shorts, denim acceptable)
      Wayside Grill: Casual Attire (Sports attire, shorts, denim acceptable)

  • Private Events (Upstairs)
    • In the upstairs of the Clubhouse, gentlemen and boys over the age of 12 years are required to wear coats after 6:00 PM unless otherwise indicated by the event. Appropriate business casual attire (collared shirt and slacks) is permitted to be worn prior to 6:00 PM in the upstairs of the Clubhouse except on Sundays and holidays.

      Denim is not permitted in the upstairs of the Clubhouse without special permission by the Board of Directors.
